Blue Chillies

Blue Chillies, Melbourne

I ate here a few weeks ago, and I still can’t stop thinking about the thrice cooked duck – so tender with a beautiful crunchy outer, in the most amazing ginger flower and lemongrass sauce.

I salivate at the mere thought of it.

We tried a lot of different dishes and it really was all good, however stand outs for me were the ikan billis fried in a sambal, roti cut up into easy to handle triangles with a sensational peanut sauce, the beef rendang – oh so tender and with incredible spices, and pepper okra battered and fried with garlic and chilli. If you’ve got room try the nasi goreng too.

Our host for the night is a regular diner and we were extremely well looked after by all the staff.

The place is small and cosy with a great atmosphere. There was a group of us so we were able to try a good range of flavours without blowing out the budget too much, if you exclude the wine! Speaking of which, a good selection of wines are available to accompany the food. I definitely suggest making a reservation. I’ll be heading straight back here on my next visit to Melbourne. Wow!
